LETTER TO U.S. PUBLISHERS RE: THE AMERICAN SCHOLAR/ HANDKE

As a once small publisher, of Urizen Books, I feel it is important to alert you to a heinous piece of literary and character assassination that one Michael McDonald of the "American Interest Magazine" has perpetrate in the once lustrous American Scholar.

As a matter of fact, this is one of the few instances that I regret not being in a position to publish the four major + three minor Handke texts on Yugoslavia as they ought to be, with a three or more dimensional time-line of the disintegration of Yugoslavia; and an essay that focused on this exemplary controversy. That comes to a book of about 500 pages! If possible I would even include Handke great play "The Play About the Film About the War", which shows how he, as an artist, takes - how shall I put it? - the 13 points of view of Wallace Stevens' blackbird on the matter. Perhaps one of you is interested in exploring this proposition. Both Professor Abbot and I have written amply on the matter, I also from a psychoanalytic perspective
